Costalegre a virgin beach
combination with colorful towns, is divided in 6 zones: NAVIDAD
BAY , TENACATITA BAY, CAREYES COAST, CHAMELA BAY, MAJAHUAS COAST
AND CABO CORRIENTES ; which distinguish one of another one by
their different geographic characteristics, their architecture
and the activities that can be developed in them.
To get into these places is to discover coast landscapes of
forest and mountains between creeks, beaches, matting, variant
islands and many fold of this exuberant and beautiful region. A
versatile destiny and outside the conventional, oriented towards
the ecology.
NAVIDAD BAY :
In this emblematic bay the beautiful and matchless Costalegre ®
begins. In this singular beach group you will find Barra de
Navidad and Melaque. Opposite to Barra de Navidad you will be
able to find the Navidad Lagoon with calm water for a trip in
boat, or to go fishing. Closely is the Cuastecomate beach and
the beaches of the El Tamarindo development.
With the sea like main cene, the different sand textures and
colors as well as the variety of their surges, these beaches are
the ideal place to enjoy and to tan, to do beach activities,
trips in boat, to go of fishing in search of marlin; its
tropical forest and rivers, make Bahía de Navidad a heavenly
tourist destiny.
MELAQUE:
Towards the northwest of Bahía de Navidad under the rock
protection, is the extensive beach of Melaque, of smooth surge,
regular slope and sand texture of mild gilded gray color.
Melaque is conformed by the colonies of San Patricio and Villa
Obregón, this last one with its wonderful
Playas del Sol. The locality of San Patricio takes its name from
Irish Saint and celebrates its celebration
the 17th of March of every year.
It is possible to practice different aquatic sports, fishing,
trips in pedal boats, to walk and to taste
fresh sea food in one from the multiple restaurants that are
next to the beach border.
An important characteristic of Melaque is its familiar
atmosphere that makes this destiny a forced Vist of native
tourists of the neighboring cities and also to the foreigner.
The viewpoint in the Melaque End is ideal to delight with the

CUASTECOMATE:
Sand beach with fine gray color that extends its beauty
throughout 250 meters; this zone is protected by the bay, has a
smooth surge and a moderate, ideal slope to have at sight to the
children and for the marine sports like swimming, diving and
fishing.
The tranquillity of this place is the best reason to forget by a
few days the exhausting daily life and to come to enjoy the
pleasures that only the nature of Cuastecomate can offer
EL TAMARINDO:
El Tamarindo is a spectacular peninsula in the middle of the
Pacific Ocean, where singular elegant architecture and comfort
shine villas can be found to please the most demanding tastes in
the middle of a privacy and tranquillity environment.
A professional 18 holes golf camp divide its area between forest
and sea landscapes, and provides the refinement touch to one of
the most interesting ecological developments of great tourism,
which is right to the south of Tenacatita.
150 hectares of ecological reserve, in where coexist an
extensive variety of animals like: armadillos, tejones, iguanas,
deers, raccoons and a great diversity of birds. They are the
best reason to keep in touch with the natural beauties of "El
Tamarindo".

as an exciting horseback riding through their paths, long walks
in their beaches like Playa Dorada, Majahuas and El Tamarindo,
the beach that gives name to the development; three beaches of
smooth surge and transparent water that along with the rest of
the landscape conform a true forest paradise.
TENACATITA BAY:
Kilometers forward from El Tamarindo, we found the magnificent
Bahía de Tenacatita, one of greatest bays of the Mexican
Republic.
This zone is the ideal site for the jaiba, snail, clam, lobster
and squid fishing depending on the time of the year. These
species also can be found within the exquisite menus of the
rustic restaurants installed near the beach.
It is said that this is one of the few places of the Mexican
coast in which the sun appears and hides by seaside in winter;
depending on the observer´s position you can be able to admire
this incredible phenomenon.
La Manzanilla, Boca de Iguanas, Los Ángeles Locos, Punta Serena,
Tenacatita and El Tecuán are the beaches that give life and
beauty to this bay.
CAREYES COAST:
The exceptional beauty of the place, obtained by its beaches and
specially by the insinuated purity of the white tone and fine
texture of its sand, makes Costa Careyes the Gem of the Pacific.
The smooth surge, thanks to the creek where it is located and
the conformed landscape invite to return to this place.
The exquisite natural beauty in its topography, its cliffs and
singulars beaches, cannot be ignored. Without any doubt, the

CHAMELA BAY:
Following highway 200 we arrived at this beautiful and exotic
bay of suspended landscapes in the deep horizon and in agreement
with its pair: sea and sky, only interrupted by the numerous
islands that close this charming place.
Dwelled of marine and terrestrial birds, it has more than ten
kilometers of varied marine and fluvial scenes, beautiful places
painted by paint artists; the sing of the waves when hitting
steep rocks, the green colour of its hills that can be seen by
the romantic regular tourists. The tranquillity of their beaches
for the joy of children and the groups of rocks for the divers
are the qualities of the Bahía de Chamela.
The set of small islands like: La Colorada, Cocinas, San Andrés,
Pajarera (reserve of birds and ideal place for diving), Novilla,
Esfinge, San Pedro, San Agustín, La Negrita, are all of them of

MAJAHUAS COAST :
The poetic beach set that embraces Costa Majahuas, is unique and
well known in all Costalegre zone, this is obtained thanks to
the conjunction of its natural elements.
Punta Las Peñitas, Hotelito Desconocido, Majahuas, Peñitas y
Chalacatepec, are places that conform this coast, contributing
each one with their
characteristic beauty touch.
The immensity of the opened sea, the different textures and
colors from its sand, as well as the diversity of animal species,

presence the ecology of the destiny.

CABO CORRIENTES:
Where the green vegetation of the Sierra Madre Occidental meets
the turquoise blue of the sea you will find one of the most
beautiful places of the Pacific Ocean: Cabo Corrientes. Founded
in 1944, Cabo Corrientes has 75 kms of beautiful beaches with
warm waters such as: Ánimas, Quimixto, Caletas, Majahuotas,
Yelepa, Pizota, Corrales, Mayto and Tehuamixtle.
On excursions and adventures
It has 80 kilometers of scenic highway and 200,106 hectares of
almost totally virgin jungle surrounded by cascading rivers that
form natural pools. These pools are great for relaxing. Cabo
Corrientes is also ideal for cycling, horseback riding, and
nature walks. The culture of past generations is revealed by
stone carvings and pieces of pottery found at Las Juntas and Los
Veranos, Guasimas, and Chacala.
On food, arts, and crafts
Coffee, fresh cheese, bread, cookies, coconut atole, chile, and
all kinds of prepared seafood. The pottery is the main
expression of local arts and crafts, and captures elements of
nature.
Traveling to the beaches
Cabo Corrientes has a great variety of beaches; one is very
famous because of its closeness to Puerto Vallarta. This beach
offers three pearls: las Ánimas, Quimixto and Yelapa, you can
also find Caletas, Majahuas and others that haven’t been fully
explored like: Pizota, Chimo, Corrales, Mayto, Tehuamixtle,
Villa del Mar, Peregrina de Gómez and others. They have
different activities you can choose from, either water or
mountain.
The magic of this piece of paradise begins at Boca de Tomatlán,
a beautiful creek where the river and the sea unite to offer up
spectacular scenery. Here you can take a water taxi that will
take you to any beach you want to visit, with several
restaurants along the way.
Ánimas
Soft sand beach with all the comforts. An area especially
suitable for diving because of its coral formations and marine
fauna. You can also rent boats to go to all the different
beaches in the area and houses and cabins are also available for
rent.
Quimixto
Famous because of its horseback riding and nature walks. A major
attraction is that of a ten-meter cascade that flows from the
local mountains. The attraction makes for a perfect excursion to
distress the body and share time with those you love. A very
good restaurant is located near by.
Between Quimixto and Yelapa there are little beaches like
Caletas, Majahuitas and Colimilla. These beaches are not
populated but they have restaurants and rental houses. You can
dive in its beautiful water that contains coral formations and
many different types of fish and invertebrates.
In the local seafood restaurants you can find the famous Yelapa
pie that combines both food and local family tradition.
Mayto
Offering over 15 kms of beautiful virgin beaches, Mayto is home
to one of the biggest turtle nesting areas on the coast of
Jalisco. Here can find guided tours about this amazing animal
and the lives they live. Additionally you will be able to
experience the liberation of the sea turtle. This place offers a
very picturesque hotel.
Tehuamixtle
This famous place offers delicious oysters of generous size, it
also has a little beach of 200 meters that serves as a safe
refuge to spend the night if sailing. Tehuamixtle beach is by
Villa del Mar and Ipala, going south, you will discover
turquoise waters that invite you to dive, swim, and fish. You
can also see an old shrimp fishing boat at the bottom of the sea
next to the remains of an old residence. For a long time this
has been one of the middle stops between Puerto Vallarta and
Manzanillo for a lot of yachters that come from California and
the Mexican coast.
Villa del Mar
It is a three-kilometer long beach with golden sand and moderate
waves. Here there are ecological cabins with magnificent views
of the ocean and estuary. You can practice kayaking in the
estuary, cycling, and hiking. You can also visit local
plantations daily.
Access to the beaches
The access to beaches is easy coming from Puerto Vallarta using
the highway 200. When you reach Tuito you take the side road, it
will take you to the many beaches. From Barra de Navidad,
passing Pino Suarez, take the side road; it will take you to
Cruz de Loreto.
Traveling through El Tuito
El Tuito is the main town of Cabo Corrientes and has the oldest
surviving ancient culture in the region. The colors of its
houses distinguish the town from the surrounding fields. In the
main plaza, you can enjoy the garden with its church, surrounded
by palm trees and great trees like the "María" tree. The ruins
of Ex Hacienda San José are another one of the attractions that
dates back to the year 1875. Ancient stone carvings can be found
in Las Juntas and Los Veranos, Guásima, Villa del Mar common
land and José María Morelos. El Tuito is located 40 kilometers
away from Puerto Vallarta on the highway 200 towards Barra de
Navidad. Along the way there are Mexican restaurants and cafes.
Sierra de Manatlán’s Biosphere
The protection of the natural environment and the conservation
of fauna and flora are the job of this reservation. This
ecological area has over 12 thousand hectares and almost 3
thousand plant species (most of them endemic) that make up the
vegetation of the reserve and that covers local mountains. There
are many unique mammals and birds in this reserve, located
between Colima and Jalisco.
