Costalegre travel information

Costalegre a virgin beach combination with colorful towns, is divided in 6 zones: NAVIDAD BAY , TENACATITA BAY, CAREYES COAST, CHAMELA BAY, MAJAHUAS COAST AND CABO CORRIENTES ; which distinguish one of another one by their different geographic characteristics, their architecture and the activities that can be developed in them.

To get into these places is to discover coast landscapes of forest and mountains between creeks, beaches, matting, variant islands and many fold of this exuberant and beautiful region. A versatile destiny and outside the conventional, oriented towards the ecology.

NAVIDAD BAY :
In this emblematic bay the beautiful and matchless Costalegre ® begins. In this singular beach group you will find Barra de Navidad and Melaque. Opposite to Barra de Navidad you will be able to find the Navidad Lagoon with calm water for a trip in boat, or to go fishing. Closely is the Cuastecomate beach and the beaches of the El Tamarindo development.

With the sea like main cene, the different sand textures and colors as well as the variety of their surges, these beaches are the ideal place to enjoy and to tan, to do beach activities, trips in boat, to go of fishing in search of marlin; its tropical forest and rivers, make Bahía de Navidad a heavenly tourist destiny.

MELAQUE:
Towards the northwest of Bahía de Navidad under the rock protection, is the extensive beach of Melaque, of smooth surge, regular slope and sand texture of mild gilded gray color.

Melaque is conformed by the colonies of San Patricio and Villa Obregón, this last one with its wonderful
Playas del Sol. The locality of San Patricio takes its name from Irish Saint and celebrates its celebration
the 17th of March of every year.

It is possible to practice different aquatic sports, fishing, trips in pedal boats, to walk and to taste
fresh sea food in one from the multiple restaurants that are next to the beach border.

An important characteristic of Melaque is its familiar atmosphere that makes this destiny a forced Vist of native tourists of the neighboring cities and also to the foreigner. The viewpoint in the Melaque End is ideal to delight with the beautiful sunsets of this region.

A privileged place where the colors of the tropical forest, the beach, the impressive cliffs, small barren islands and pointed salient rocks of sea are interlaced, which they form a landscape of romantic dream.

CUASTECOMATE:
Sand beach with fine gray color that extends its beauty throughout 250 meters; this zone is protected by the bay, has a smooth surge and a moderate, ideal slope to have at sight to the children and for the marine sports like swimming, diving and fishing.

The tranquillity of this place is the best reason to forget by a few days the exhausting daily life and to come to enjoy the pleasures that only the nature of Cuastecomate can offer

EL TAMARINDO:
El Tamarindo is a spectacular peninsula in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, where singular elegant architecture and comfort shine villas can be found to please the most demanding tastes in the middle of a privacy and tranquillity environment.

A professional 18 holes golf camp divide its area between forest and sea landscapes, and provides the refinement touch to one of the most interesting ecological developments of great tourism, which is right to the south of Tenacatita.

150 hectares of ecological reserve, in where coexist an extensive variety of animals like: armadillos, tejones, iguanas, deers, raccoons and a great diversity of birds. They are the best reason to keep in touch with the natural beauties of "El Tamarindo".

Within the activities the visitors can practice tennis as well as an exciting horseback riding through their paths, long walks in their beaches like Playa Dorada, Majahuas and El Tamarindo, the beach that gives name to the development; three beaches of smooth surge and transparent water that along with the rest of the landscape conform a true forest paradise.

TENACATITA BAY:
Kilometers forward from El Tamarindo, we found the magnificent Bahía de Tenacatita, one of greatest bays of the Mexican Republic.

This zone is the ideal site for the jaiba, snail, clam, lobster and squid fishing depending on the time of the year. These species also can be found within the exquisite menus of the rustic restaurants installed near the beach.

It is said that this is one of the few places of the Mexican coast in which the sun appears and hides by seaside in winter; depending on the observer´s position you can be able to admire this incredible phenomenon.

La Manzanilla, Boca de Iguanas, Los Ángeles Locos, Punta Serena, Tenacatita and El Tecuán are the beaches that give life and beauty to this bay.

CAREYES COAST:
The exceptional beauty of the place, obtained by its beaches and specially by the insinuated purity of the white tone and fine texture of its sand, makes Costa Careyes the Gem of the Pacific.

The smooth surge, thanks to the creek where it is located and the conformed landscape invite to return to this place.

The exquisite natural beauty in its topography, its cliffs and singulars beaches, cannot be ignored. Without any doubt, the development of hotels and houses of the Costa Careyes project is what most interest has.

A residential first category and enigmatic beauty complex in where the architectonic lines along with the nature, create a surprising scene.

In its beaches are located restaurants with international gastronomical specialties; these wait for you to taste their exotic dishes surrounded by luxury and excellent service.

CHAMELA BAY:
Following highway 200 we arrived at this beautiful and exotic bay of suspended landscapes in the deep horizon and in agreement with its pair: sea and sky, only interrupted by the numerous islands that close this charming place.

Dwelled of marine and terrestrial birds, it has more than ten kilometers of varied marine and fluvial scenes, beautiful places painted by paint artists; the sing of the waves when hitting steep rocks, the green colour of its hills that can be seen by the romantic regular tourists. The tranquillity of their beaches for the joy of children and the groups of rocks for the divers are the qualities of the Bahía de Chamela.

The set of small islands like: La Colorada, Cocinas, San Andrés, Pajarera (reserve of birds and ideal place for diving), Novilla, Esfinge, San Pedro, San Agustín, La Negrita, are all of them of accessible View by boat and without a doubt they represent an attractiveness of the bay

MAJAHUAS COAST :
The poetic beach set that embraces Costa Majahuas, is unique and well known in all Costalegre zone, this is obtained thanks to the conjunction of its natural elements.

Punta Las Peñitas, Hotelito Desconocido, Majahuas, Peñitas y Chalacatepec, are places that conform this coast, contributing each one with their
characteristic beauty touch.

The immensity of the opened sea, the different textures and colors from its sand, as well as the diversity of animal species, enriches with their
presence the ecology of the destiny.

Proper place for the adventure in its wide beach kilometers in where camping can be practice to be in touch with nature.

CABO CORRIENTES:
Where the green vegetation of the Sierra Madre Occidental meets the turquoise blue of the sea you will find one of the most beautiful places of the Pacific Ocean: Cabo Corrientes. Founded in 1944, Cabo Corrientes has 75 kms of beautiful beaches with warm waters such as: Ánimas, Quimixto, Caletas, Majahuotas, Yelepa, Pizota, Corrales, Mayto and Tehuamixtle.

The culture of past generations is revealed by stone carvings and pieces of pottery found at Las Juntas and Los Veranos, Guasimas, and Chacala.

On food, arts, and crafts

The magic of this piece of paradise begins at Boca de Tomatlán, a beautiful creek where the river and the sea unite to offer up spectacular scenery. Here you can take a water taxi that will take you to any beach you want to visit, with several restaurants along the way.

Ánimas

Quimixto
Famous because of its horseback riding and nature walks. A major attraction is that of a ten-meter cascade that flows from the local mountains. The attraction makes for a perfect excursion to distress the body and share time with those you love. A very good restaurant is located near by.

Between Quimixto and Yelapa there are little beaches like Caletas, Majahuitas and Colimilla. These beaches are not populated but they have restaurants and rental houses. You can dive in its beautiful water that contains coral formations and many different types of fish and invertebrates.

In the local seafood restaurants you can find the famous Yelapa pie that combines both food and local family tradition.

Offering over 15 kms of beautiful virgin beaches, Mayto is home to one of the biggest turtle nesting areas on the coast of Jalisco. Here can find guided tours about this amazing animal and the lives they live. Additionally you will be able to experience the liberation of the sea turtle. This place offers a very picturesque hotel.

This famous place offers delicious oysters of generous size, it also has a little beach of 200 meters that serves as a safe refuge to spend the night if sailing. Tehuamixtle beach is by Villa del Mar and Ipala, going south, you will discover turquoise waters that invite you to dive, swim, and fish. You can also see an old shrimp fishing boat at the bottom of the sea next to the remains of an old residence. For a long time this has been one of the middle stops between Puerto Vallarta and Manzanillo for a lot of yachters that come from California and the Mexican coast.

Villa del Mar
It is a three-kilometer long beach with golden sand and moderate waves. Here there are ecological cabins with magnificent views of the ocean and estuary. You can practice kayaking in the estuary, cycling, and hiking. You can also visit local plantations daily.

Access to the beaches
The access to beaches is easy coming from Puerto Vallarta using the highway 200. When you reach Tuito you take the side road, it will take you to the many beaches. From Barra de Navidad, passing Pino Suarez, take the side road; it will take you to Cruz de Loreto.

Traveling through El Tuito
El Tuito is the main town of Cabo Corrientes and has the oldest surviving ancient culture in the region. The colors of its houses distinguish the town from the surrounding fields. In the main plaza, you can enjoy the garden with its church, surrounded by palm trees and great trees like the "María" tree. The ruins of Ex Hacienda San José are another one of the attractions that dates back to the year 1875. Ancient stone carvings can be found in Las Juntas and Los Veranos, Guásima, Villa del Mar common land and José María Morelos. El Tuito is located 40 kilometers away from Puerto Vallarta on the highway 200 towards Barra de Navidad. Along the way there are Mexican restaurants and cafes.
