Manzanillo travel information.
Manzanillo is one of the most
beautiful beach destinations in the nation. It is located on the
Pacific coast, 90 km (56 mi) south of state capital Colima. The
climate is warm and fairly dry, with an average year-round
temperature of 27º C (81º F).
Manzanillo is known as the Sailfish Capital of the World. Since
1957, it has hosted important national and international fishing
competitions, such as the Dorsey Tournament, making it a very
attractive fishing destination.
At the beaches of Miramar and La Audiencia, which have fine sand
and gentle slopes, you can do various aquatic sports, such as
scuba diving and snorkeling. At the hotels and at Las Hadas
Marina, you can hire a yacht to enjoy the sun and the region's
incredible scenery along the bays of Manzanillo and Santiago.
The ride affords you an excellent view of the hills covered with
lush vegetation, which are ideal spots for ecotourism outings,
camping and adventure sports.
In Manzanillo you'll find modern Mediterranean- Moorish- and
Mexican-style hotel resorts. This destination also has three
world-class golf courses, some of which are surrounded by
lagoons and mountains, and offer an ocean view. These courses
offer everything you'll need to enjoy an excellent day on the
links.
As you explore the downtown area you'll find numerous
restaurants serving regional cuisine, such as ceviche or
tatemado, a pork backbone dish. At some of the markets, you can
buy all kinds of crafts, including hammocks and necklaces made
from seashells. In addition, you'll come across a fair share of
bars and cafes, where you can chat with friends and enjoy an
interesting night out. During your stay, don't forget to visit
the boardwalk, the Obregon Garden and the Monumento al Pez Vela
(Sailfish Monument), a spectacular work of art created by

GOLF
Manzanillo has wonderful golf courses where important national
and international tournaments take place, drawing some of the
world's best golfers. You can enjoy a day on the links at the

Las Hadas Golf & Marina Resort. Located on Avenida de los
Riscos, in Las Hadas, on the Santiago Peninsula, about 30
minutes from the Playa de Oro International Airport. Pete and

BEACHES
Manzanillo's beaches have fine sand and sparkling blue waters,
which invite you to do a wide variety of aquatic sports, such as
scuba diving and boating. If you're looking for something more
relaxing, you can simply bask in the sun.
Playa Olas Altas. Located at Santiago Bay, 3 km (2 mi) west of
Playa Santiago. This beach is ideal for sunbathing and enjoying
the beautiful landscape. The waves here are mild.
Playa Miramar. Located at Santiago Bay, 3 km (2 mi) west of
Playa Olas Altas. This beach has fine sand, gentle waves and a
moderate slope. It offers food and lodging services and is one
of the most visited beaches. In addition, you'll find rentals to
do all kinds of aquatic sports.
Playa Santiago. Located on the eastern end of Santiago Bay, 3 km
(2 mi) west of Playa Las Hadas. This beach has fine sand, small
waves and a fair share of restaurants and hotels aiming to make
your stay as pleasant as possible.
Playa La Audiencia. Located at Santiago Bay, 3 km (2 mi) south
of Playa Santiago, in the Peninsula de Santiago neighborhood.
This beach, which has a tropical climate, golden gray sand, a
gentle slope and mild waves, is the ideal spot to do various
land and aquatic sports. This is Manzanillo's most popular beach.
Here you can rent boats and gear for scuba diving and snorkeling.
From the lookout points of La Reina and El Faro, you'll get a
great view of the gorgeous landscape.
Playa La Boquita. Lies west of Santiago Bay. This beach with
fine golden sand and small waves is great for enjoying various
aquatic sports. This is a popular destination for family
vacationers. The beach is 1 km (about a half mile) long.
Playa Las Hadas. Located at Manzanillo Bay, 3 km (2 mi) east of
Playa Santiago. Considered one of the best-located and quietest
beaches at Manzanillo Bay, Las Hadas has excellent lookout
points offering a view of the nearby beaches and their
surrounding landscapes.
Playa El Arrecife. Lies southwest of Manzanillo, on an elevated
point of the Juluapan Peninsula, near the Villa del Mar
neighborhood. The cliffs surrounding this beach offer a romantic
setting and a view of the Juluapan Peninsula. You'll also be
able to see the waves breaking against the rocky coast of
Ensenada de Higueras.
Playa San Pedrito. Located on the eastern end of the Manzanillo
Bay, at this beach you'll find the Club Deportivo de Pesca de
Manzanillo (Manzanillo Sportfishing Club). The gentle surf and
abundant vegetation make this quiet beach destination the ideal
spot for rest and relaxation.
SCUBA DIVING
In Manzanillo and its surrounding areas there are many ideal
spots to go scuba diving and snorkeling, for beginners and
experts alike. At these places you'll see hundreds of colorful
fish, manta rays and many other species as you enjoy an exciting
dive among the coral and rock formations.
Playa La Boquita. Lies west of Santiago Bay. This beach with
fine golden sand and small waves is great for enjoying various
aquatic sports. This beach is ideal for snorkeling, as it allows
you to see the remains of a sunken ship and beautiful coral
formations.
Playa Las Hadas. Located at Manzanillo Bay, 3 km (2 mi) east of
Playa Santiago. This spot is tucked away in a cove with small
waves. Thanks to its shallow waters, it's perfect for novice
scuba divers.
Playa La Audiencia. Located at Santiago Bay, 3 km (2 mi) south
of Playa Santiago, in the Peninsula de Santiago neighborhood.
This beach, which has a tropical climate, golden gray sand, a
gentle slope and mild waves, is the ideal spot to do various
land and aquatic sports. The waters here have a maximum depth of
12 meters (40 feet) with a sandy and rocky bottom. At this beach
you can rent scuba diving and snorkeling gear.
Playa El Arrecife. Lies southwest of Manzanillo, on an elevated
point of the Juluapan Peninsula, near the Villa del Mar
neighborhood. These waters, which are 19 meters (63 feet) deep,
offer gorgeous underwater scenery for scuba diving.
La Roca del Elefante. Located on the Juluapan Peninsula, in
southwest Manzanillo, which is about a 20-minute boat ride from
Miramar and one hour from the port of Manzanillo. In these
waters you'll see an underwater canyon, which is the habitat of
hundreds of colorful fish, making it the ideal spot for scuba
diving and snorkeling.
FISHING
Manzanillo, known as the Sailfish Capital of the World since
1957, hosts important annual fishing tournaments, which draw
some of the world's best fishermen. In addition to the sailfish
tournament, participant compete to catch dorado, marlin and
tuna, as hundreds of spectators look on.
Playa San Pedrito. Located on the eastern end of the Manzanillo
Bay, at this beach you'll find the Club Deportivo de Pesca de
Manzanillo (Manzanillo Sportfishing Club). Each year this beach
hosts important national and international sailfish tournaments
NIGHTLIFE
In Manzanillo you'll find various options to enjoy an
entertaining night on the town. You can take a walk along the
boardwalk or visit such places as Bar de Felix, Colima Bay Café
and Ole Ole Bar, which offer excellent drinks and live music on
weekends. If you want to dance until the break of dawn, Bom Bom
has the latest in pop and electronic music. If you prefer
tropical rhythms, we recommend the Tropifiesta, where you'll
find the best atmosphere for cumbia and salsa music.
